Right from childhood, most girls have grand ideas of how they’d want their dream wedding to be like. While dreams do come true, things may not always go according to plans. Here’s a beautifully heartbreaking story of a bride from Huyton, Liverpool, who selflessly cut off her locks at her very own reception in order to honour her terminally ill groom.
Craig and Joan Lyons, both 44, had known each other for over thirty years. But it wasn’t until a-year-and-a-half ago that Craig decided to tell Joan how he really felt about her while aboard a ferry on the River Mersey. “I fell in love with her as soon as I set my eyes on her when we were 14,” Craig told the Daily Mail.
While they had initially planned to tie the knot later in the year, they decided to bring the date forward after learning about Craig’s inoperable tumour on his main pancreatic aorta.
Craig was moved beyond words after Joan shaved her head. “It was obviously the first time I had seen Joan without her hair and she looked beautiful, absolutely stunning,” he told the Daily Mail. “She is the woman of my dreams.”
Joan donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity involved with creating wigs for children who lose their hair whilst undergoing cancer treatment.
Here are a few pictures from the couple’s wedding capturing what has become a very memorable moment of their lives.
