The 89th Academy Awards, which we better know as Oscars, are impending. 26th February 2017 will tell us who becomes the Best Actor and which motion picture bags the Best Film Oscar.
The Oscars of last year had made quite an impact by finally gracing Leonardo Di Caprio with the Best Actor award.
And this year? Well, we can’t say anything about the Best Actor but we can definitely tell you what impactful films have found a place in the Oscar nominations.

The real life story of how a lost son reunited with his mother and his family after 25 years of separation has gained considerable popularity by now. Directed by Garth Davis, Lion puts forth the story of Saroo Brierley which he had penned down in his book, A Long Way Home. Lion stars Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman among others, including the very adorable Mumbai lad Sunny Pawar.
It released in India on 24th February 2017.
La La Land
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know about La La Land. The musical rom-com beautifully showcases the journey of Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) as they chase their dreams in a world full of ups and downs.
The film has been nominated in 14 Academy Awards categories including Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Picture.
Arrival is an American Science Fiction movie, that released last year, directed by Denis Villeneuve, adapted from the 1998 short story and novella, Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang. The film revovles around the plot of saving the Earth from a formely misinterpreted message from the aliens that causes nations to put military forces together to initate a war against aliens.
The cast of Arrival includes Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker.
Hackshaw Ridge is a 2016 biographical war drama film, directed by Mel Gibson, that revolves around the World War II experiences of Desmond Doss, an American pacifistic combat medic who refused to carry or use arms as he was a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian.
The movie, boasting of a cast including Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington and Luke Bracey, was picked by the American Film Institute as one of the top ten ‘Movies of The Year’.
Moonlight is a 2016 American drama movie, based on the play, In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by Tarell Alvin McCraney. Shiron, the character is shown into three stages of his life, as a shy child, then as a teenager and finally into an adult. It is based on an uncommon wise outlook on the three crucial stages of life, imparting some sense of realization.
Moonlight won the 74th Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama.
Manchester By The Sea
Hidden Figures revolves around three African-American women who work at NASA. These women show-off their excellence by carrying out exemplary operations including sending astronaut John Glenn into orbit which is recorded as one of the greatest operations in History.
The film has been nominated in 3 Academy Awards categories including Best Picture.
