The Government of India, in 1984, declared 12th January, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand, as the National Youth Day. Therefore, 12th January has been celebrated as the National Youth Day since 1985.
Swami Vivekanand is a person whom we studied about in our History classes and whose teachings we forgot. I only faintly remember the name Ramakrishna Mission which was associated with Swami Vivekanand.
As I brushed up my History today, I am reacquainted with the facts that had, at some time, been the undertakings of a man called Narendra Nath Datta who later became Swami Vivekanand. And from whatever I have read about Swami Vivekanand, I gather that he was an absolutely patient, tolerant and determined man.
Therefore, let us revisit some of his absolutely hard-hitting and timeless quotes:
Here’s to his teachings and ideals. Here’s to the youth!
