What is a better time than a dull afternoon to ponder on things that we never thought shields a logic to itself? We’ve all done it. Well, at some point in your life you might’ve noticed ‘YKK’ on your zipper which you might’ve thought about, but never cared to find out. Here’s when we step in.
We decided to get up our lazy bums and did an extra effort so you don’t have to. Here’s what we found out:
YKK on the zipper stands for Yoshida Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha – the world’s foremost zipper manufacturer. It was founded back in 1934 in Tokyo by a Japanese businessman, Tadao Yoshida. According to an estimate, they make more than half the zippers in the world at over 206 facilities across 71 countries.
Since then, YKK is into the business of making all sorts of fasteners and snaps. Not only this, they also make the machines that make the zippers.
