3 flats, 3 land plots, 2 cars and an office space. This is what a government peon from Gujarat had under his name.
As per a report by Indiatimes, Hasmukh Rawal, a peon with Gujarat Water Resources Development Corporation, had assets worth ₹1.18 Crore. The peon from Gandhinagar had a case registered against him by the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau.
As per an official’s statement,
‘His wife was part of the Gandhinagar district panchayat. His assets are 202.33% of his known sources of income. A search at his residence on Saturday by a Mehsana unit fetched gold ornaments worth Rs 12.53 lakh and other valuables worth Rs 3.82 lakh.’
This was one out of the five cases registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. These five cases sum up assets worth ₹14.17 crore.
Out of the ₹14.17 crore, Bharatgiri Goswami, who works with the HR department of GSPC, had assets worth ₹11.56 crore.
That’s like almost 80% of the total assets.
The ACB official’s statement said,
‘Goswami was found to own an apartment in Akshar Apartments and a plot in Sector 1 at Gandhinagar, another plot at Kanva Society in Koba, seven pieces of farmland in Pethapur and a piece of farmland in Alampur near Gandhinagar.’
As per the sources quoted by Indiatimes, Goswami is on his way joining a corporate house.
With such cases on the rise, the government will be put under a lot of scrutinies. Corruption free India is a long way to go.
